A small electrical fire reported just after 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 16 at Domtar’s Rothschild facility is being blamed on a backup boiler, fire officials say.

Crews from three area fire departments were called after the fire alarm and sprinkler system were engaged, according to Domtar employees at the scene. The blaze was quickly contained, and no one was injured, fire officials say. The building sustained minor damage, but employees were back to work within hours.

Domtar is the largest integrated producer of uncoated freesheet paper in North America and second largest in the world based on production capacity, according to the company’s website. About 300 people are employed at the Rothschild facility, which first opened as a mill in 1909 and became part of Domtar in 2007.
