(UPDATED) A 44-year-old Schofield man is facing felony charges in connection with a New Year’s Day armed robbery at Dollar General, 830 Grand Ave., Schofield.
Phillip Spiller was taken into custody on Friday following a traffic stop and is expected to appear in court this afternoon. Spiller faces charges of armed robbery with the threat of force, theft and bail jumping. The armed robbery charge alone carries a maximum penalty of up to 40 years in prison and up to a $100,00 fine upon conviction.
Police were called at about 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 1 to the Dollar General for a report of an armed robbery, according to the police report. Witnesses told police the suspect entered the store, brandished what appeared to be a gun and demanded money before leaving the store.
No one was injured in the robbery. Police did not say how much money was taken.
Everest Metro police in January released surveillance photos that showed a man wearing a dark jacket entering and leaving the store during the robbery. That suspect was later identified as Spiller.
Spiller is facing unrelated felony drug charges filed Jan. 25 in Marathon County Circuit Court. He had been free since Feb. 15, when he was released on a $2,500 signature bond, according to court documents.
Spiller is being held in the Marathon County Jail. No bail amount has yet been set.
