WAUSAU – A 93-year-old Wausau man serving a 20-year prison term ordered in 2016 will stand trial on another sexual assault charge, this time for an incident in June 2014.
Edward Heckendorf faces misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree sexual assault in a case filed in April. Marathon County Circuit Judge Mike Moran reviewed the results of a psychologist’s competency exam regarding Heckendorf before determining Heckendorf fit to stand trial. A competency hearing was held on Wednesday, March 22.
Moran in July sentenced Heckendorf to prison after he was convicted of eight counts of sexual abuse, included five counts of first degree child sexual assault. Court documents said the generations of abuse began in the 1960s and occurred when the victims were not yet teenagers.
The girls, now in their 30s and 40s, told investigators Heckendorf touched them inappropriately many times when they were young, according to court documents.
Future court dates have not yet been set for Heckendorf, who is serving his sentence in Oshkosh Correctional Institution.
