MADISON – WPR.org will live stream the 13th annual State of the Tribes address on Tuesday, April 4 at 1 p.m. Shannon Holsey, president of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians, will welcome members of Wisconsin’s 11 native tribes and deliver this year’s address from the State Capitol.
Holsey was elected president in 2015, following eight years as a member of the Tribal Council. She is the youngest woman to lead the Stockbridge-Munsee. Holsey’s message will focus on her commitment to embracing tribal diversity, sustaining stewardship, and strengthening relationships with the state of Wisconsin.
“We as tribal nations are committed to forging opportunities and utilizing our resources to improve the lives of people through economic diversification, access to health care, quality education, and being good stewards of our natural resources, to name a few, not only for our tribal people, but all people,” Holsey said. “My hope is that this address will advance the conversation between the state of Wisconsin and the 11 tribal nations in finding workable solutions to these important objectives and to celebrate and embrace that which makes each of us unique.”

Holsey grew up on the Stockbridge-Munsee reservation in Bowler, Wis. She received her bachelor of arts in business administration from Colorado Technical University and received her master of arts in strategic communication and leadership from Seton Hall University.
