WAUSAU – (Updated, 2:25 p.m.) A lockdown at the Marathon County Courthouse prompted by an empty gun holster discovered in a men’s bathroom has ended.

The lockdown was ordered around 10:25 a.m. after courthouse staff found the holster, multiple witnesses reported.

The lockdown was called off at about 11:15 a.m. after a search of the building. About 75 people were escorted from the building after being screened with security wands, witnesses said.

The building does not typically have metal detectors or screening measures in place at entrances, but police beefed up security on Wednesday in the wake of the incident. No firearms were found in the search.
