WAUSAU – The University of Wisconsin-Marathon County will welcome Janet Planet to the James F. Veninga Theater on April 21 at 7 p.m. She will be the featured clinician and performer for the fourth annual UWMC Vocal Jazz Festival.
A faculty member at Lawrence University in Appleton, Janet is no stranger to Wisconsin audiences, but her 25-year career has spanned the globe. Her most recent album, “Just Like a Woman: The Music of Bob Dylan, Volume 2,” features her belting vocals over big band arrangements.
“Janet is an artist who is appreciated by listeners as well as her fellow musicians,” said Timothy Buchholz, assistant professor of music at UWMC. “That she is also a gifted educator makes her the perfect guest for our festival.”
The concert will be the capstone event of the two-day Vocal Jazz Festival. Janet will spend Thursday, April 20 working with UWMC choir students. On Friday, April 21, she will be joined by Grammy-nominated arranger, conductor and educator Dr. Jeremy Fox of Indiana University. The two will conduct vocal clinics for seven visiting high school and college-level choirs from throughout the state.
The UWMC Vocal Jazz Choir will open the concert on the 21st and will collaborate with Janet Planet on one number.
General admission tickets are $15 and can be purchased at www.showtix4u.com or at the UWMC business office, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Remaining tickets will be sold at the UW Center for Civic Engagement box office starting at 6:15 p.m. the day of the show until sold out. UWMC students may attend for free.

Additional support is provided by The Murco Foundation and Wisconsin Public Radio. The festival is part of the UWMC Lecture & Fine Arts series.
