WAUSAU – The Center for the Visual Arts will kick off its latest exhibits with an opening gallery gala on April 21.
The exhibit, Hats Off – A Reflection of Culture will be featured in the CVA Caroline S. Mark Gallery, the K-12 Visual Expressions – Wausau School District will be shown in the CVA Loft Gallery, The Reveal will be located in the CVA Vault Gallery and The Butterfly Art Project can be seen in the CVA Skylight Gallery.
The Opening Gallery Gala will be held on Friday, April 21st from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to celebrate the exhibiting artists. Wausau Homes is the 2017 year-long gallery sponsor of the CVA.
The word milliner is defined as the designing and manufacturing of hats. Milliners and hatters work with an array of materials to create original and functional sculptural pieces of art that are worn by the modern man and woman. At one time, hats were the essential “top” for completed wardrobe styles. Throughout history, hats also served as social status symbols. Hats were worn for the everyday, Sunday, and special occasions.
The Hats Off – A Reflection of Culture exhibit features local and regional milliners and hatters along with fine art mosaics providing reflections throughout the gallery. Visitors will view a wide range of contemporary millinery forms from modern fascinators, to men’s fedoras, derby hats, special occasions, and more.
Featured are artists Susan Carrolan, Renee Roeder Earley, Sharra Frank, Dianne Isbell, John & Kate McLaughlin, Karen Morris, and Margie Trembley, according to a CVA news release.
The CVA Loft Gallery is featuring the K-12 Visual Expressions – Wausau School District exhibit, where visitors can view 2D and 3D artwork created by all ages. Artists in the exhibit are also received Superintendent Awards.
Colors, motion, emotion and flight are represented in Christine’s artwork showcased within “The Reveal” exhibit taking place in the CVA Vault Gallery. Each work of art depicts a piece of Christine’s creativity and method. The exhibit leaves both a dramatic and whimsical impression. Christine’s powerful color choices and spontaneous actions emerge off the canvas and reveal new sensory sensations.
Christine is a signature member of six national watercolor societies – International Society of Acrylic Painters, Philadelphia Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, Illinois Watercolor Society, Missouri Watercolor Society and the Western Watercolor Society. To become a member of these societies you have to be juried into their national exhibition for 3 times or more. These national exhibitions are very competitive and artists from all over the world compete in them.
The CVA Skylight Gallery is featuring artwork by The Women’s Community in the Butterfly Art Project. View over 80 canvases assembled together for form one butterfly. The butterfly theme symbolizes change, rebirth, renewal, happiness, and transformation, similar to the stages survivors of abuse experience.
Visitors can also learn about the #ButterflyEffect challenge.
The CVA is an arts nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging people in the visual arts and adding to the livability of the Wausau regional community. Most artwork in the Caroline S. Mark Gallery, Loft Gallery, and Vault Gallery are for sale. All proceeds sustain the operations of the CVA.
