WAUSAU – City leaders will hold a public information meeting next week on the West Thomas Street reconstruction project, according to a news release issued Wednesday.
The meeting is set for 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 at the Wausau City Council Chambers, 407 Grant St., Wausau. The city’s engineering department representatives will present the proposed construction schedule, detour route and schedule of services for residents affected by the project. They will also answer public questions.
Planning for the multi-million dollar reconstruction project began more than a decade ago and has been revised several times throughout the years to minimize the impact on land owners adjacent to the roadway. Nearly 90 residents and businesses were originally expected to be affected but so far, less than 30 buildings have been razed to accommodate the project, according to city documents.
Construction is slated to begin in May and will close the east-west artery between Third Avenue and 17th Avenue in Wausau. Haas Sons, Inc., is the construction contractor on the project and AECOM is the engineer and construction manager and inspector. Both companies will have representatives on hand to answer questions from residents.
This is the last public informational meeting to be held before construction officially begins.
