WESTON – The Woodson YMCA on Saturday will participate in a nationwide event that aims to help children and families learn about healthy living while inspiring more kids to keep their minds and bodies active heading into summer.

The goal of Healthy Kids Day is to make fitness fun while introducing kids to an array of programs and tools to teach healthy behaviors and ways to play, according to a YMCA news release.

The Woodson YMCA event will be held at the Aspirus Branch in Weston on Saturday, April 29, from noon to 3 p.m. The free afternoon is open to the entire greater Wausau community. The first 200 kids who attend will receive a free drawstring YMCA bag. Planned activities include:

  • NEW! Log rolling in the Pool
  • Youth Fitness Challenge
  • Kids Zumba
  • Open Swim (Don’t forget swim suit and towel!)
  • Bounce House
  • Woodson Art Museum project
  • Health and wellness vendors

Healthy Kids Day is celebrated at nearly 1,300 YMCAs across the country to get more kids moving and learning, so they can keep up the habit all summer.

“We feel like it’s a great way to kick off summer. The kids enjoy the play time and we can get the community together to showcase great healthy living resources,” said Jessica Mowrer, senior membership and program operations director.
