WESTON – After 25 years of service to the town and village of Weston, Fred Schuster has left the Board of Trustees, according to Administrator Daniel Guild.
The Village recently held a small ceremony recognizing him for his service.
“Few people have had as much impact on the community development of Weston as Fred has,” Guild wrote in an email. “It is also my opinion that it won’t be common for us to see such long tenures of service in local government service in the future”
Schuster started his public service to Weston after he was nominated to the then town (of Weston) Board of Supervisors in 1991 to fill a vacancy, according to a statement released by Guild. Following his appointment, he won his first seat to the Weston board in 1992, and then served seven non-consecutive terms, spanning 14 years until 2008. After a brief hiatus from the Board of Trustees, Fred returned in 2005 and became the village’s second president, following the unexpected death of former Village President Vilas Machmueller.
While Village President, Schuster represented Weston at the Wausau Metropolitan Planning Organization and Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau. He chaired the public works, public safety, EMPD joint finance committees, and the Village’s Plan Commission. He has served on the personnel committee, and the Economic Development committee.
“Fred has definitely been a big part of Weston’s success having served almost 25 years as a local elected official,” Guild’s statement read.
