RIB MOUNTAIN – A portion of Hwy. NN in the town of Rib Mountain remains closed after heavy rains more than a week ago washed out part of the road, officials said.
The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department is advising drivers to avoid the area, which is just west of Thornapple Road. Motorists are being detoured from Hwy. N to Hwy. O.
Heavy rainfall caused the road to buckle and washed out the concrete, officials said.
A sinkhole was also reported this week in Wausau, closing down a portion of River Drive for several hours. That road has since been repaired.
Officials have not said when Hwy. NN will reopen.
