Two Wausau School District educators, both teachers at Wausau East High School, are being honored for their work.
East High School librarian Paula Hase (left) and graphics teacher Elizabeth Kysely have been named 2017 PBS Digital Innovators by Wisconsin Public Television. They were selected by how they set the bar for thoughtful tech integration in the classroom, according to a Wausau School District Release.
According to Kristin Leglar, Senior Education Specialist for Wisconsin Public Television, Kysely and Hase earned the WPT 2017 Educator Innovator badge for “all the awesome things they are doing with their students and for nurturing relationships that support student learning and well-being in Wisconsin.”
Both teachers were instrumental in receiving one of six $100,000 grants given to educators nationwide through the Farmers Insurance Dream Big Teacher Challenge. Hase’s proposal, “Plugged in, Engaged, and Informed: Ownership of Learning Through Video Production and Journalism” proposed a new digital learning lab for students.
The new lab, slated for completion this month, features Mac computers, a sound booth and more, allowing students to learn about broadcasting, video production and editing. The lab will also be available to members of the community.
