WAUSAU — The 8th grade farewell dance at John Muir Middle School was postponed Friday and the school was placed briefly in a “soft lockdown” after a prank call with a “generic threat,” Wausau School District officials have confirmed.

The lockdown went into effect at about 2:30 p.m. and was lifted at 3 p.m. Parents said they received an automated phone call to advise them of the situation.

About five Wausau Police officers were on scene until the situation was deemed safe.

All after school activities were cancelled. School is expected to resume on Monday.
