TOWN OF RIETBROCK — One person is dead and another person is injured following a crash involving two semi tractor trailers on Hwy. 29, according to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.

The crash, which happened in the westbound lane between Hwy. H and Cardinal Road, was reported Thursday at about 6 a.m., police said. A preliminary investigation shows that an eastbound semi crossed the median area between the eastbound and westbound lanes, crashing into a westbound semi, according to a news release.

The driver of one vehicle was killed and the driver of the second vehicle was injured, police said. No passengers were in either vehicle. Police did not specify the severity of the injuries to the second driver, who was transported to a local hospital.

Westbound Hwy. 29 traffic is being detoured Thursday at Hwy. 107 near Marathon, south to Hwy. N, westbound to Hwy. 97 and north back to Hwy. 29, according to the release. A reopening estimate is not yet available.

The name of the driver who died in the crash is expected to be released on Friday. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
