TOWN OF HARRISON — One person is injured after a dump truck loaded with granite was struck by another vehicle and caught fire, police said.
At 12:28 PM several callers reported the crash on Hwy. 17 near John’s Memorial Drive, south of County Rd D, Gleason.
According to the preliminary investigation, a vehicle being driven by a Wausau woman crossed the center line and struck a southbound dump truck that was fully loaded with gravel.
The dump truck burst into flames and was destroyed, police said.
The driver of the dump truck was not injured in the crash. The Wausau woman was critically injured in the crash. She was extricated from her vehicle and flown from the scene by Spirit 2 to Wausau Aspirus Hospital.
As of 5 p.m. the roadway remained restricted to one lane of travel as the dump truck was off loaded and removed from the scene. Leaking fuel is also being contained and removed.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Town of Russell Fire Department, Town of Crescent Fire Department, Oneida County Medic One, The Lincoln County Highway Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, the Oneida County Haz Mat Team and Deputies from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
