Carroll William Pieper

Carroll William Pieper passed away June 9, 2017 at the age of 89 at Gardenside Crossing at North Central Health Care in Wausau.

Carroll was born to the late Walter and Ann (Rosentreter) Pieper on December 11, 1927 in Brokaw, the oldest of four siblings. He imersed himself completely in everything that he did growing up including his studies, working in the family garden, and hunting and fishing in the surrounding wilderness.

He graduated from Wausau High School in 1945. Shortly after he began his career working at Marathon Electric, he joined the United States Army where he proudly served as an Intercept Operator. He was honorably discharged in 1947. He spent the majority of his career at Mosinee Paper Corporation working up the ranks to retire as Chief Engineer. He was particularly proud of this accomplishment having never attended college.

He married the love of his life, Duaine May Buntrock on May 21, 1949 in Wausau. Together they celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Carroll often lamented that he had too many interests, thrusting himself completely into all that he did. He had a wide variety of skills and hobbies, and was self-taught. He took pride in his ability to learn through his boundless reading. Over the years he amassed a collection of books covering fishing, hunting, art, sailing, poetry, and virtually all of the trades. He loved to sail on Lake Dubay, and even built the family cottage from the ground up in Northern Wisconsin. Despite his love for hunting, fishing and other hobbies, family and friends always came first.

While he loved his job, he truly relished his retirement which allowed him even more time to devote to his joys. Although his accomplishments are too vast to list, he was very generous with his time and talents helping his children with projects around their homes. He gladly welcomed his Daughter-in-Law, Kathie and his Son-in-Law Jim into his family.

His Grandchildren, Conner and Allison were a source of endless joy and pride for him. He spent countless hours reading to them as youngsters, “Hattie and the Fox” being one of their favorites.

He was an avid painter, leaving behind many beautiful paintings -especially of birds.

He is survived by his wife, Duaine, Schofield; daughter, Jane (Jim) Garrett, Rochester, MN; sons, Scott (Kathie) Pieper, Merrill; and Mark Pieper, Wausau; two grandchildren, Conner and Allison Garrett; and one sister, Verene Kelly, Ocala, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dave Pieper; sister, Jan Bergmann; and brother-in-law, Tom Buntrock.

A Celebration of Carroll’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, 903 3rd St, Wausau, WI. The Rev. Jerry Morris will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. until the time of services at the church.

Margaret Holmes

Margaret Irene Holmes, 96, of Rothschild, WI, formerly of Creve Coeur, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 1, 2017 under the care of Aspirus Hospice. Family surrounded her.

Margaret was born December 5, 1920, in Macomb, IL, daughter of the late Perry and Mamie (Lindsey) Stewart. On June 26, 1939, Margaret married John R. Holmes in Canton, MO.

Margaret was a charter member of Bethel Memorial United Church in Creve Coeur, IL and an associate member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Rothschild, WI; a woman of great faith who enjoyed reading her bible. Her hobbies included: making candy at Christmas, quilting, crocheting, needlework, gardening, canning, fishing, horses and watching the squirrels play in her yard. She cherished time spent with her family and always looked forward to watching her favorite shows Ellen DeGeneres and Blue Bloods with her granddaughter Jeanette. She will be especially missed by her cat, Tommy and dog, Bullet.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, John “Jack” Holmes; parents, Perry and Mamie Stewart; son-in-law, John Kieser; and grandson-in-law, Bob Brandt.

Survivors include her daughter Jean (Frank Curtis) Kieser, of Peoria, IL and son William (Ruth) Holmes of Edelstein, IL. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Lee Ann Short of Loveland, CO; Alice (Todd) Hancock of Rothschild, WI; Jeanette Brandt of Rothschild, WI; Erika (Rob) Arnhart of Bloomington, IL, Erinn Holmes of Brooklyn, NY, Henry (Lyndsay) Holmes of Grand Rapids, MI, Juanita (David) Redfield of Brighton, CO, Jim (Chamonie) Kopp of Newport Beach, CA, and Jean Gray of Daejeon, South Korea, as well as nine great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Rothschild, WI. Pastor Rich Block will officiate. David J. Gorski

David J. Gorski, 91, Schofield, died Friday, June 9, 2017 under the care of Ministry Hospice at Tender Reflections, Weston.

He was born May 9, 1926, in Wausau, son of the late Anton and Regina (Dobeck) Gorski. On July 3, 1948, he married Annabelle Boettcher at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild. She preceded him in death on November 29, 2008.

Dave served his country in the United States Air Force. After receiving his personal pilots license as a young man, he was hired to shuttle small aircraft between airports and he enjoyed impressing his girl “Ann” with an occasional “date” in the sky.

Dave spent over 40 years in a career at Weyerhauser Paper Mill, eventually working his way up to superintendent of the paper machines. He also owned and operated “Stay Brite” Laundromat and Drycleaners in Schofield for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman his entire life.

Dave and his beloved Ann were perpetual snowbirds during retirement years, RVing across the country enjoying golfing, fishing, casinos and meeting up with their fellow snowbird friends.

He will be remembered dearly by all who have had the pleasure of having him in their lives. Go with God. We love you. You will be missed.

Survivors include his children, Paula (Jim) Dalton, Mosinee, Mary Graveen, Wausau, Sue (Thau) Suwannakoot, Fordland, Missouri and Tharen (Beth) Gorski; daughter-in-law, Linda Gorski, Hatley; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; siblings, Daniel Gorski, Rothschild, Gordon (Seglinda) Gorski, Wausau and Virginia (Eugene) Pehowski, Rockford, Illinois.

Besides his parents and wife, Annabelle, he was preceded in death by three sons, Leslie, Paul and Lyle, a son-in-law, Rick Graveen, sister, Grace (Lazelle) Aldrich, and a sister-in-law, Vernabelle Gorski.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild. Rev. Louis Britto will preside. Entombment will be in the Garden of Eternal Rest, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild. There will be a 6:30 p.m. prayer service Monday evening at the Sixth Street funeral home.

Hermina Jaeger

Hermina Irene Jaeger, 101, Rothschild, died Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

She was born November 10, 1915 in St. Cloud, Minn., daughter of the late John and Johanna (Schaeffer) Siegmund. On July 3, 1948, she married Raymond Jaeger at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death on October 14, 1981.

In her younger years, Hermina worked as a housekeeper, at Marathon Battery and also as a retail clerk at Winkelman’s and Johnson Hills. She volunteered at the Salvation Army for over 20 years and enjoyed her role as a Girl Scout Leader. Hermina was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and was involved in many church activities. She was a member of the Rosary Society and the PCCW for many years.

Survivors include, her daughter, Hermina Mary Jaeger, Rothschild; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Ray, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Adeline Staszak, LeRoy Siegmund and Marcella Choronzak.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. James Schaefer will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a rosary service at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Marilyn F. Byrne

Marilyn F. Byrne, 84, Wausau, died Tuesday, June 6, 2017 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at her home.

She was born July 30, 1932, in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Wichinski) Baszynski. On May 29, 1954, she married Joseph Frederick at St. Gerard Catholic Church, Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on August 10, 1992.

Survivors include her daughters, Gail Byrne and Denise (Randy) Lange; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Fisher and their children, Maddison and Rylee and Stacy (Tom) Drury and their children, Kati and Hunter; three nephews and other relatives and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, Joseph, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mark Jacobi.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2017 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the time of services all at St. Matthew Catholic Church.

John R. Habeck

John R. Habeck, 88, Ringle, died Tuesday June 6, 2017 at Cedar Ridge Elder Services, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

He was born May 6, 1929 in Ringle, son of the late Emil and Leona (Zahn) Habeck. On June 23, 1951, he married Jean Johnson at St. Paul’s Evangelical Church, Wausau. She preceded him in death August 12, 2006.

Survivors include three children, Scott (Marcia) Habeck, Cathy (Randy) Marquardt, and Michael (Kathy) Habeck, all of Ringle; his grandchildren, Madonna (Ryan) Enkers, Matt Habeck, Mandy Habeck, Jodi (Brett) McCarthy, Brian (Lindsey) Marquardt and April Habeck and his very special great-grandchildren, Will and Abby McCarthy, Addison and Axel Enkers and Ruben and Darlene Marquardt. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Jeannie and a sister, Verna Bleier.

John lived on the family farm raising beef cattle and also worked at American Can as a tool and die maker. He served on the Ringle Town Board and was Town Chairman for many years. He was on the Ringle Fire Department and was one of the organizers of the infamous Ringle Days.

In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling, trips to the casino, woodworking, snowmobiling, making doll houses, hunting and trapping. He was a member of the Everest green tarp section at football games and never missed the watching and listening to the Packers or the Brewers. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Ringle and before that was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Weston, serving on the church council there.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Cedar Ridge Elder Services, Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, Dr. Nash, the Mosinee Clinic, the members of Grace Lutheran Church and many relatives, including sister-in-law, Florence Johnson and Barbara Habeck.

Funeral services will be Noon Saturday June 10, 2017 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, R7395 Birch St., Ringle. Rev. Glenn Seefeldt will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

Earl G. Albrecht

Earl G. Albrecht, 87, Athens died Tuesday June 6, 2017 at home under the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. Earl was born February 26, 1930 to the late Peter and Emma (Braun) Albrecht on the family farm in the town of Rietbrock. He met his childhood sweetheart Nancy Morse and always saved her a seat on the bus, eventually marrying her on November 30, 1953. He was her loving husband for over 63 years.

Earl was a hardworking and dedicated family man. As a dairy and ginseng farmer, he knew the value of home, love of family and friends. Many in the community may know Earl from being a local seed-corn dealer, serving on the Athens Co-op board of directors, lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where he worshiped, ushered and served on church committees. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing Sheepshead, Packer parties, going to Canada fishing and deer hunting with family, friends and neighbors. One of his favorite pastimes was listening and dancing to the Polka music he loved. With God’s blessing, Earl survived and his family had 12 more years with him, after being diagnosed with stage four Sarcoma.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; his eight children, Louise (Jeff) Ellenbecker, Michael (Sandra) Albrecht, Karen (Alan) Schmitt, Norbert (Karen) Albrecht, Peter (Barb) Albrecht, Lisa (Andy) Spahn and twins, Denise (Steve) Balz and Dennis (Noreen) Albrecht; 27 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Walton; two brothers-in-law, Robert Lenz and Norman Hamby; four sisters-in-law, Helen (Tom) Giese, Audrey (Harold) Pruss, Alberta (Wayne) Walker and Sally (Lamont) Mienen; many nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends and neighbors.

Earl was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille, Viola and his twin sister, Ellen; a grandson, Kevin; his step-mother, Erna Gassner; three brothers-in-law, Barney Schmitt, Russ Walton and Sonny Morse; and a sister-in-law, Judy Morse.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday June 10, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. George Graham will preside. Family and friends may call from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Elizabeth “Betty” Schreier

Elizabeth “Betty” Schreier, 62, Marathon, died Friday, June 9, 2017 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

She was born January 17, 1955 in Wausau, daughter of the late George and Edna (Rajek) Schreier.

Betty was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and Milwaukee Brewers fan. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed fishing and wildlife and was an excellent cook.

Survivors include, 12 siblings, Maryellen Volm, Brokaw, Gerald (Genevieve) Schreier, Marathon, James Schreier, Wausau, Dar Nowitzke, Marathon, Ruth (Kenneth) Wendt, Marathon, Richard Schreier, Marathon, Joseph (Maureen) Schreier, Rib Mountain, Clifford Schreier, Marathon, Robert (Lisa Giese) Schreier, Marathon, Edna Schreier, Marathon, David Schreier, Marathon and Dr. John Schreier, Marathon; and nieces and nephews further survive.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary and Kenneth; an infant sister, Joan; and one brother-in-law, Richard Volm.

Private burial will be held at a later date.

Martin Wischmeyer

Martin “Marty” Wischmeyer, 97, of the town of Texas, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born on October 13, 1919, in the town of Easton, to the late Harry and Anna (Abma) Wischmeyer. Marty grew up and attended school there before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. Later that year he met Beverly Engles and they were married in 1947.

Marty worked in the carpentry trades and retired from Hoffer Glass. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, golfing at the American Legion, and league bowling at Days Bowl-A-Dome. When he needed an escape, he would spend time with his family up north at their trailer. Marty also enjoyed his time travelling the country with Beverly. Recently, Marty was able to take an Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C. and celebrate his service while interacting with other veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; children, Debra (Steve) Thorne, Guy (Linda) Wischmeyer, Todd Wischmeyer, and Brian Wischmeyer; grandchildren, Katherine (Caleb) Bahler, Roy (Kari) Thorne, Jared Thorne, Elizabeth Thorne, Joseph Thorne (fiancée, Alaina Byler), Jedidiah Thorne, Samantha (Corbin) Johnson, and Michael Wischmeyer; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William (Ethel) Wischmeyer; sisters, Gertrude (John) Bultman and Rena (Henry) Vlietstra; and one great-grandson.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at New Hope Community Church, E1045 South County Road J, Town of Easton. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow in Forestville Cemetery, town of Easton, with military honors provided by American Legion Montgomery-Plant-Dudley Post #10.

Ruthelle Frank

Ruthelle Regina Frank, 89, Brokaw, died Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Wausau.

Ruthelle was born August 21, 1927 in her beloved Village of Brokaw to the late Elmer and Dorothea (Baumann) Wedepohl across the street from the house she would eventually live in for her entire life. She was a 1945 graduate of Wausau High School and worked at Wausau Paper Mills until marrying Henry “Hank” Frank Jr. On June 27, 1953 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church. The couple was blessed with three children: Randy, Rochelle and Renae. Ruthelle and Hank celebrated 63 years together prior to his death on December 16, 2016.

Ruthelle relished being a mother and delighted in raising her children. She was devoted to her children teaching them practical skills like cooking, baking, gardening, raising pet chickens, instilling a love of reading and even sewed clothes for them. Family time included arts and crafts making Christmas tree and Easter egg tree ornaments. Most importantly, Ruthelle taught them by example to care for others first and stressed “If you don’t use it, you lose it.” She never let her physical challenges slow her down or stop her; traveling extensively throughout the country, often to the West Coast to visit relatives. She also enjoyed hiking in many parks and walking though the Village of Brokaw streets.

Ruthelle had a great love of the Village of Brokaw and served as a Trustee for 18 years. She gave back to Brokaw by donating her wages to go to Christmas decorations, playground equipment and flowers. Ruthelle was also dedicated to voters rights her entire life.

Ruthelle is survived by her beloved children, Randy and Rochelle Frank and Renae (Mitch) Butler; cousins and extended family and friends.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, June 9, 1017 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Walter Davidson will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Friday at the church. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park following the funeral service. Carla Waube

Carla Darlene Waube, 48, of Wausau, peacefully passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017, at her home in Wausau.

Carla was born in Wausau, WI on April 19, 1969, daughter of Robert Lee Evans and Sherry Lee (Muenchow) Evans. She received her education in Wausau, graduating from Wausau West in 1987. In 1993, she married Scott Waube until his passing in 1997. In the last decade or more she spent her time with Roy Fitzke, her loving fiance’.

Carla more often known as “Mamma Bear or Ma” had many “Adopted Children” both young and old that she had accepted and loved as her own. She was always there to lend a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen if needed, and sometimes her motherly advice whether you wanted to hear it or not. She had a huge heart that is leaving many memories behind for lots of people to this day.

She enjoyed her position as a Bartender/Manager/Cook/Waitress spread throughout her 25 years at Burks Fireside Tap.

In her free time she enjoyed cooking for her neighbors/friends, spending time with her grandson, boating, fishing, golfing, watching football, playing in pool leagues and different pool events. Overall she just enjoyed being around family, friends, and traveling when she made the time.

She was preceded in death by her father and husband.

Carla is survived by her daughter Olivia Waube, grandson Gunner Peterson, fiance’ Roy Fitzke, stepson Ben Fitzke, mother Sherry Evans, brother Lonnie Evans; his wife Jennifer Evans, and half-brother James Radtke.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at 6:00 p.m., June 14th, 2017, at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St. Wausau. With a Celebration of Life to follow.
