UPDATE: One dead, two injured in I-39 crash

One person is dead and two people are injured following a single vehicle crash early Friday on I-39 in the town of Knowlton, police said.

The crash happened just after 5:30 a.m. in the northbound lane near Hwy. C. One adult woman died at the scene of the crash and two other people were transported to Wausau Aspirus Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to a Marathon County Sheriff’s Department news release. Both injured people have since been release.

The crash closed both northbound lanes of the highway for several hours but the road has since been reopened.

The crash remains under investigation. No names have been released.


LAKE DU BAY — A crash on I-39 has completely blocked northbound lanes of traffic, detouring a section of the highway at CTH DB near Lake Du Bay, according to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.

At least one person was injured in the crash, police said.

Northbound I-39 is being re-routed to County Road DB to Hwy. 34 to I-39.

There is no estimate on when the road will be open.

More information will be released later today.
