RIB MOUNTAIN — Area dogs are one step closer to having a new place to run, after county officials on Tuesday approved the sale of property to the town of Rib Mountain for a dog park.

Thee proposed park is just off the Hwy. R trail on Oriole Lane, south of CoVantage Credit Union. Plans call for a fenced in area with walking paths and will have a separate parking area for visitors. The town of Rib Mountain also plans to plant a number of trees in the park, which is being paid for partially through donations to the Rib Mountain Community Improvement Foundation.

The Marathon County Board will sell the property to Rib Mountain for $5,400. The overall cost of the four-acre park, which will be open to dogs from all area communities, is projected at about $107,000, according to county documents.
