PRICE COUNTY – Authorities are investigating the fatal crash of a Cessna airplane that went down in northern Wisconsin.

The Price County Sheriff’s Office has not said how many people were aboard the airplane when it crashed at 3:21 a.m. Saturday or whether more than one person died.

The sheriff’s office says the crash happened just south of the city of Phillips. Several area fire departments responded.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are helping investigate.

FAA spokesman Tony Molinaro said the plane was a Cessna 421.


PRICE COUNTY – A portion of Hwy. 111 is closed Saturday following a report of a plane crash in Price County, police said.

The plane is reported to have crashed in the Catawba area near Hwy. 111, which runs north and south between Hwy. 8 and Hwy. 13.

The Wisconsin State Patrol reports all northbound and southbound lanes of Hwy. 111 are blocked for several miles. The initial report came in just before 4 a.m., police said.

There’s no word yet on injuries. This story will be updated.
