The Wausau National Little League All-Stars are one step closer to a national championship after winning the state tournament this weekend.

Wausau took the title Saturday after beating top-seeded Kenosha American 13-9.

The team, made up of 11- and 12-year-old athletes, now heads to Indianapolis where they will be one of six teams to compete in the Great Lakes Regional tournament. The winner of that tournament will secure a spot in the Little League World Series.

If Wausau’s team comes up a winner, they will be the first Wisconsin team in Little League history to make it to the World Series.

Regional play for Wausau begins at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, against Hamilton West Side of Ohio. Games will be broadcast on ESPN channels.
