ANTIGO — A 22-year-old woman is being held in the Langlade County Jail on a $2,500 cash bond after being arrested in connection with a hit-and-run death in Antigo.

Kayla Rauhut of Antigo faces felony charges of hit and run involving death and is set to appear in court Aug. 21, according to court records.

Police say Rauhut hit 45-year-old Kevin Harris with her silver Nissan SUV, rolling the vehicle on top of him. She then got out of her vehicle to check on Harris before getting back in and rolling over him a second time with her front tire, police said. The incident happened at about 2:15 a.m. early Friday morning behind a tavern in the 600 block of Edison Street in Antigo, according to the complaint.

Rauhut fled the scene on foot, police said.

When Rauhut was found a short time later walking on the sidewalk in the 800 block of Fourth Avenue, she denied driving the vehicle that struck Harris and named another man who she claimed was driving the SUV.

Rauhut was charged on Monday, when she appeared at a bail/bond hearing. Police did not say whether Rauhut and Harris knew one another before the incident. She faces up to 25 years in the Wisconsin Prison System if she is convicted of the charge.
