PORTAGE COUNTY — Two men are seriously injured following multiple crashes blamed on wooden beams that fell from a truck on Hwy. 10 in Portage County, police said.

The crashes were reported just after 2 p.m. on Saturday, after wooden beams fell off a truck and trailer driven by a 75-year-old Vesper man. In the first crash, a van  driven by a Shawano man struck one of the beams, leaving the van disabled on the shoulder of the highway, police said. Shortly after the first crash, a 40-year-old Schofield man driving a motorcycle struck another beam, launching the motorcycle airborne and into the van.

Both the van driver and motorcycle driver were seriously injured and were transported to the former Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, which was recently renamed Marshfield Medical Center, police said. Their names and current conditions have not been released.

Additional information on the crashes will likely be released on Monday.
