WAUSAU – The Humane Society of Marathon County is hosting an open house party this weekend to introduce the organization’s new executive director and learn more about the shelter’s mission and goals.

The open house will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Humane Society, 7001 Packer Drive, Wausau. Executive Director Lisa (Held) Leitermann, along with HSMC staff and volunteers, will meet and greet the public and will share information about upcoming events and improvements planned for the shelter.

Leitermann was appointed director of the organization in late May.

The event will showcase some of the organization’s future plans, as well as partnerships with other animal advocacy groups in the area, Leitermann said.

Among the plans for the future: cat yoga classes, a painting party, and more.

Representatives from Lost Dogs of Wisconsin, the Community Cat Action Team, dog training organizations and other groups will be on hand, and people who attend will have an opportunity to learn how to become a volunteer.

“We’re all here for the animals, and this event is about enhancing our relationship with a community of animal lovers,” Leitermann said.

The free, public event will feature food, music, raffles, a photo booth, a bouncy house and booths form local animal organizations.

And of course, the animals will be there, too.
