WAUSAU — The 37-year-old man serving a life sentence for killing 22-year-old Stephanie Low is objecting to paying $5,688 in restitution to Low’s mother, according to court records.

Kristopher Torgerson was convicted by a jury on March 24 of killing Low in October 2010 and hiding her body in the woods more than 30 miles from Wausau. The case remained unsolved for nearly four years, until Torgerson led investigators from the Wausau Police Department to Low’s body.

On June 8, Marathon County Circuit Judge Greg Huber sentenced Torgerson to life in prison without the possibility of supervised release on the homicide charge, followed by 9 years in prison for hiding Low’s body. He is already in prison after being convicted of drug trafficking in an unrelated case.

Torgerson is appealing the conviction.

On July 17, Torgerson was ordered to pay restitution to pay for 55 days of lost work for Claudia Blake, Low’s mother. The restitution would be paid through withholding 25 percent of any prison wages Torgerson earns while incarcerated, according to the order. But a July 24 letter from defense attorney Thomas Wilmouth states that Torgerson objects to the restitution and is asking for a hearing on the matter.

A restitution hearing has been set for Aug. 30 with Marathon County Circuit Judge Greg Huber.
