One person is confirmed dead in an explosion Thursday that leveled a Shawano County home.
Police said Friday that 54-year-old Diane Pickett died in the explosion, which was reported around 5 a.m. in the town of Wescott. The home is about 15 miles northeast of Shawano. The explosion shook the neighborhood and left the home completely destroyed, with bits of insulation, nails, splintered wood and other debris scattered throughout the area.
Another homeowner was out of state at the time of the blast, according to Shawano County Detective Gordon Kowalski.
The cause of the explosion has not been confirmed, but investigators believe a propane leak was involved, according to Sheriff’s Department officials. The state fire marshal and the state Department of Criminal Investigation were called to the scene.
