TOWN OF FAIRBANKS — A 21-year-old driver died early Sunday in a single-vehicle crash in the town of Fairbanks, according to police.

The crash was reported at 12:53 a.m. and happened in the northbound lane of Hwy. 45. A preliminary investigation shows the driver lost control of the vehicle, entered a ditch and hit a telephone pole just south of Menzel Road, according to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department. The driver, who is from the Bowler area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 24-year-old passenger in the vehicle was injured in the crash and was transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment. The passenger is from the Tigerton area, police said. The severity of the passenger’s injuries has not been released.

No names have yet been released in the crash, which remains under investigation.
