PHELPS — The body of a missing boater has been found in a Vilas County lake, police said Saturday.
The Vilas County Sheriff’s Department was first alerted Monday, Aug. 28, to a report of an empty fishing boat found on the shoreline at Big Sand Lake, police said. The boat was found with its running lights on and motor running, but no one was in or around the boat.
A warden from the Department of Natural Resources found the body of the missing boater just before 7 a.m. Saturday, police said. The name of the boater is not yet being released.
No foul play is suspected.
