EAGLE RIVER — A 19-year-old Eagle River man is expected to face homicide charges this week following a fatal shooting in Eagle River, police said.

A 20-year-old Conover man died after being shot in the chest, according to the Eagle River Police Department. The shooting happened at about 11:45 p.m. at 421 E. Wall Street, police said.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released, is a Florida native who had been living in Conover, police said. The man died from his injuries after arriving at the hospital.

Officers took multiple people into custody, including one man who is being held on a preliminary charge of homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon, explosives or fire.

The ongoing investigation is being led by the Eagle River Police Department, with assistance from the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, Three Lakes Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Lab and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Additional details are expected to be released on Tuesday.
