RACINE COUNTY, WI — Police have arrested one man and are searching for a second suspect in the February 2000 murder of a 39-year-old woman in Racine County.

Thirty-nine-year-old Juanita Zdroik, the mother of three, was found fatally shot along Highway K in the Town of Raymond on Feb. 7 of 2000. Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said Monday at a news conference investigators have finally arrested one of two men identified as Zdroik’s killers. Schmaling investigators have spent hundreds of hours trying to solve the case.

Although leads were developed over the years, the sheriff says information received in a double homicide in Milwaukee this year led to the two suspects, Miguel A. Cruz and Elias Burgos.

On Aug. 28, Cruz was located in Tampa Florida where he is awaiting extradition. A warrant has been issued for Elias Burgos, who is believed to be hiding in Puerto Rico.

Zdroik left behind two daughters and a son.
