TOWN OF PINE RIVER — A 31-year-old woman is facing multiple criminal charges after she led police on a miles-long chase through the city of Merrill before ramming a deputy’s squad car, ending the pursuit, according to a news release.
The chase began just before 2 a.m. when a Lincoln County deputy tried to stop the woman, who was allegedly driving partially in the wrong lane of traffic on Hwy. 64 in the town of Pine River, just east of Merrill. The driver failed to stop and eventually “actively fled” from the deputy, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
The driver led police on a chase into Merrill before turning down a dead end road outside city limits. She then turned around and rammed the squad car head on before she was taken into custody, police said.
The driver, whose name has not yet been released, is being held in the Lincoln County Jail on preliminary charges of second offense OWI, possession of methamphetamine, felony fleeing, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. The woman also has several outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions, police said.
Official charges are expected to be filed later today.
