MARSHFIELD — One person is in custody following an hours/long standoff in Marahfield, police said. 

A number of city streets in Marshfield were closed Sunday and police were warning people to stay away from the area as they negotiated with a wanted person who is inside a residence.

The standoff unfolded on North Hinman Avenue between E. Upham Street and N. Peach Ave., according to the Marshfield Police Department. Portions of North Hinman Avenue and East Kalsched Streets were closed.

Residents inside the perimeter were asked to stay inside their homes until the situation is resolved.

Witnesses tell Wausau Pilot and Review there were officers from multiple area agencies on scene. An armored vehicle and police in tactical gear were also seen in the area.

The name and gender of the suspect have not yet been released.
