STEVENS POINT — A 49-year-old Stevens Point man faces felony charges after he allegedly kicked a police officer during an arrest.

Russell West, who was initially found at around 4 p.m. on Oct. 9 intoxicated and passed out behind a downtown Stevens Point business, volunteered to go to a detox program at Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital, police said. After he was checked in, officers left, but were soon called back to the business after West reportedly began to threaten hospital staff.

Police said West was yelling obscenities and urinated on the floor and walls of the hospital.

West now faces a charge of felony battery to a law enforcement officer, which carries a maximum penalty of up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines. He is also facing misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges.

West is being held in the Portage County Jail on a $300 cash bond, according to court documents. A hearing is set for this afternoon.
