TOWN OF WILSON — A 51-year-old man is dead following an ATV rollover crash Thursday night, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
Police were called at 7:38 p.m. to the crash scene on CTH CC east of Poplar Drive in the town of Wilson when they discovered the man, who had been traveling westbound when his ATV struck a bear. The ATV rolled, ejecting the man, who was critically injured and transported to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk, police said.
The man was later transferred by helicopter to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where he later died, according to a media release. The ATV operator, whose name has not been released, was not wearing a helmet and there were no other passengers involved in the crash.
Police do not suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
The name of the man who was killed in the crash is expected to be released in 24 hours, after his family has been notified.
