Sharon C. Nyquist, 27, of Dalbo, Minn. Felony charges filed Oct. 12 include taking and driving a vehicle without the owner's consent and throwing or discharging bodily fluid at a public safety worker or prosecutor.

WAUSAU — A 27-year-old Minnesota woman who allegedly stole a truck from a downtown area business thought police were planning to “keep her locked up in Wausau and kill her” when she fought with police and spat on an officer, according to court records.

Sharon Nyquist is due in court Monday for a preliminary hearing on charges of taking and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent, throwing or discharging bodily fluid at a public safety worker, criminal damage to property, resisting, and disorderly conduct. She is currently being held in the Marathon County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

Nyquist allegedly stole a truck on Oct. 11 from a riverfront area parking lot and was captured a short time later on E. Bridge Street, where she had been driving erratically, according to the criminal complaint. Police took Nyquist to the hospital for a blood test to determine whether she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

That’s when Nyquist began to experience “auditory visual hallucinations,” police said. The suspect told officers she thought she had woken up in the river and had no memory of how she had gotten from Minnesota to Wausau, according to the police report.

When police told Nyquist they were about to transfer her to the jail, she became uncooperative and combative, screaming at officers and accusing them of wanting to kill her, police said. Officers placed a “spit hood” over Nyquist’s head several times, but she bit holes in them and continued to resist arrest, according to court documents. Nyquist was eventually subdued and taken into custody.

A judge is expected to review Nyquist’s request for a reduction in bond on Monday.
