STEVENS POINT – Get ready for a spooky good time in Stevens Point this weekend and next as Central Wisconsin Area Community Theater gets ready for The Addams Family Musical.

The musical is a fairly recent addition to the Broadway repertoire, first hitting Broadway in 2010 with Nathan Lane as Gomez Addams and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia. While the play does draw some elements from the TV and Movie versions, the plot is entirely new and drawn from the original cartoons drawn by Charles Addams. Viewers will be drawn into a story of unexpected love and two families trying to figure out what exactly ‘normal’ is.

CWACT director Joe Nowinski said they picked the show in order to reach a wide audience of people who enjoy the world that the Addams Family is drawn from.

“We’re trying to get a whole large group, young and old, who remember the show all the way back in the 1960s up to the movie remakes,” he said.

The group is aiming to wow audiences with some excellent effects as well.

“It’s going to be magical,” Nowinski said. “There are fantastic lights and smoke effects, there’s ghosts on stage, this is a show you do not want to miss.”

Nowinski said the most important part of the show is the story about what it means to be a family.

“Those classical values of family and how important it is to be who you are, but at the same time the show’s got a lot of edges to it, just like any torture device you might find in the Addams household,” Nowinski said.

Some of the jokes in the show do run a little on the adult side, so unless you’re expecting to explain things to younger children you might want to keep this show for teens and older.”

See the show at the Sentry Theater @1800. Showtimes for the Addams Family Musical are this Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Two more shows are set for November 3rd and 4th at 7:30 p.m.
