Calling all gingerbread architects!

The Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks is hosting their inaugural Sweet Landmarks of Wausau Gingerbread contest on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Woodson History Center, in conjunction with the Marathon County Historical Society’s annual Christmas at the Houses celebration.

The contest invites people to create their favorite historic structure in Wausau out of gingerbread and other sweet treats.

Structures must be at least 50 years old and within the Wausau city limits; this can be an existing structure or one that is no longer around. Some examples include our current City Hall or one of our past City Hall buildings, Chip’s Pop Corn Wagon, the Exhibition Building at Marathon Park, Athletic Park, the Woodson History Center, or the house down the road from you.

Each entry must include a photo or drawing of the building created, and some historical information or a personal story about it. Only edible items may be used in the creation of the landmark.

Complete rules are available at the Friends of Wausau Historic Landmark website, wausauhistoriclandmarks.org.

Entries will be accepted in five categories: Child, Youth, Teen, Adult, and Professional. Each category will award prizes from local businesses for first, second, and third place. The Child and Youth categories will allow the use of graham crackers instead of gingerbread.

Judging of entries will be December 2 from 1:00-3:00 pm. All entries will remain on display through December 9 at the Woodson History Center for the public to view during regular business hours.
