TOWN OF ROYALTON — Police have released the names of two people who died in an apparent murder/suicide Tuesday in Waupaca County.
Police say Cori S. Cummings, 32, of Manawa, was fatally shot by her estranged husband, John J. Cummings, 51, of Weyauwega shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday in the town of Royalton.
Cori Cummings was driving a car with John Cummings in the passenger seat when she was shot multiple times, police said. John Cummings then fatally shot himself.
The vehicle the two were riding in overturned at the intersection of North Shore Road and Hwy. 110. Police were aided in their investigation by surveillance footage from a supper club across the street that showed the sequence of events.
Police said the couple was separated, though there is no court record that shows a legal separation or pending divorce. John Cummings has a criminal record that includes multiple misdemeanor convictions for disorderly conduct and resisting an officer, but does not appear to have a felony record in Wisconsin.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
