Police: Racine man dead in Merrill-area hunting accident

TOWN OF HARDING — Police say a 59-year-old Racine man was found dead Friday in what is being described as a hunting accident.

Investigators say Donald Peterson was hunting alone in the town of Harding off of Camp Avenue when he climbed a tree stand that let loose.

At 3:15 p.m. on Friday, a Merrill man who was accessing the land found Peterson, who was hanging from a tree, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies, along with the town of Corning Fire Department and Lincoln County EMS responded to the accident, where Peterson was pronounced dead. Foul play is not suspected.
