WAUSAU — An investigation continues into a report of shots fired late Wednesday on the city’s west side, the second incident involving gunfire in the area in less than a month.

The Wausau Police Department responded at 10:11 p.m. to the 300 block of Garfield Avenue after a caller reported hearing shots ring out in the area, according to police. No injuries were reported and no damage was found.

Officers interviewed residents who said the shots were apparently fired outdoors on or near the street by suspects who fled the area in a vehicle before police arrived on scene.

Police are also continuing to investigate another report of shots fired in an area several blocks from Garfield Avenue.

In the early morning hours of Oct. 6, police responded to a tavern at 810 S. Third Avenue after a report of two men who fired shots at one another in the parking lot. Both men left the scene in their vehicles and have not yet been identified by police.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call the Wausau Police Department at 715-261-7800.
