TOWN OF JOHNSON — Police have identified a 30-year-old man who died in a fiery crash west of Wausau as Eric M. Hein of Athens.
The crash was reported at 7:39 p.m. Wednesday evening on Hwy. 29 at Hwy. 97.
A preliminary investigation shows Hein drove his pickup off Hwy. 97 in a southbound direction, then proceeded through the gore area and over the westbound lane on Hwy. 29. The pickup came to rest in the median of Hwy. 29 and started on fire.
Hein, a graduate of Athens High School, leaves behind two children, according to his obituary.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
