WESTON, Wis – Get ready for a fun, vibrant, musical experience this weekend at D.C. Everest High School as Seussical the Musical hits the stage at the auditorium.

The themes and story of the musical draw from a lot of Dr. Seuss’s books, but mainly feature around Horton and the Whos, and weaves many of the stories around in between. Director Wendy Vesper says that gives both kids and adults something to see in the show.

“It might be geared towards kids, but there’s a lot for the adults to come and see as well,” Vesper said.

She adds that many parents bringing their kids to see the show will be able to introduce their children to the world of Dr. Suess that they grew up with themselves.

Vesper says she was working to find a show that could really give her students a creative push on the stage this year.

“I worked on Seussical nine years ago as a choreographer, and we all thought this would be a really good fit for this this group of kids,” Vesper said.

She says the diverse cast of Who’s, animals, and the Cat in the Hat really make it an age friendly show to cast.

One surprise for the audience will be the rhyming on stage. The entire play is sung and spoken in meter, and Vesper calls it a little bit akin to an operetta in that way. “Everything kind of clicks in rhythm in the show, and that’s a fun thing to work with, but it’s also been a challenge for some, but it makes it really really fun.”

She says that’s taken some training for the kids, but that it gets the ensemble more involved because everyone has to take part in keeping the rhythm and energy alive.

Expect a vibrant, vivacious show if you’re coming out to see it, with plenty of interaction with the audience to boot, and more than a few surprises on the way. Special recognition goes out to Ben Smith who is making his very first appearance on stage while taking on the role of Horton the Elephant and bringing determination to the faithful pachyderm.

Miriam Peters leads the cast as the Cat In The Hat and displays a deep joy in the role, challenging us and the cast to have some very big “Thinks.”

Showtimes for Seussical the Musical are Thursday at 6:30 pm, Friday and Saturday at 7 pm, and matinees performances on Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm. For tickets and more info, log on to http://showtix4u.com.
