TOWN OF CLEVELAND — A man is dead after he became entangled in a power take-off unit of a tractor, police say.

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, along with Stratford Fire and Rescue, were dispatched at 6:51 p.m. on Tuesday to a farm in the town of Cleveland where a man was found passed out in a field.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead by the Marathon County Medical Examiner.

A power take-off shaft, or PTO, is used to transfer power from a tractor to an implement. Entanglements can happen when working near a PTO and a piece of clothing gets pulled into the unit.

This death appears to be accidental and no criminal activity is suspected.
