WAUSAU — The chair of the Marathon County Board of Supervisors could see an annual salary increase of $15,081, more than doubling the salary being paid to current Board Chairman Kurt Gibbs.
The salary hike, recommended by the county’s human resources, finance and property committee, will be discussed Tuesday during an educational meeting and budget public hearing at the Marathon County Courthouse. The meeting, which includes time for public comment, is slated to begin at 8 p.m.
Salaries for such positions vary widely across Wisconsin. Portage County’s board chair earns $20,000 per year, while in La Crosse, the pay is $15,240. The chair of the Dane County Board of Supervisor earns about $37,000 each year.
The current annual salary for the board chair is $14,919, according to county documents. The proposed pay raise would take effect April 17, 2018, when a newly elected board and officers are sworn into office.
The resolution also calls for two annual increases to salaries for board members, who currently earn $5,383 pear year. If the proposal passes, salaries would increase by $106 per year on April 17 and increase again on Jan. 1, 2019 by $108 per year.
Any change to current salaries requires a two-thirds majority vote.
