WAUSAU — The Wausau School Board of Education is reaching out to members of the community for input as they search for the next Superintendent of Schools.

A community forum is planned for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15 in the Nicholson Board Room at the Longfellow Administration Center, 415 Seymour Street, in Wausau. Members of the media have also been invited to participate in a focus group discussion to be held the same day.

Gathering information from interviews, focus groups, a community forum, and the recent superintendent characteristics survey conducted by the board is the first step in the search for a new leader, said Wausau School Board President Lance Trollop, in a Nov. 10 email to media outlets.

“It is most important to secure the strongest possible candidate pool and ultimately the best person to lead the Wausau School District,” Trollop wrote. “Community engagement in the search process is critical.”

Residents can print and complete the New Superintendent Profile form and bring it to the community forum, or scan and email the form to the search consultants. Forms will be available at community forum as well. Provide input to the consultants directly by contacting Dr. Miles Turner ([email protected] or 608-630-5616) or Dr. Jim Shaw ([email protected] or 262-909-8904). The consultants will summarize the findings for the board without attributing specific comments to individuals.

Information and timelines related to the superintendent search process is posted on the District website.

The school board on Oct. 9 hired Minnesota firm School Exec Connect to conduct a nationwide search for qualified candidates for the position, vacated in June when Dr. Kathleen Williams stepped down from the post. Williams had held the role for seven years before she retired.

A new Superintendent of Schools is expected to assume the role on July 1, 2018.
