VILLAGE OF MAINE — Two people are in custody after police were called to Maine Elementary for a report of suspicious people at the school.
Police were called at 8:10 a.m. Thursday after two people unfamiliar to school staff were on school grounds. The two people were challenged by staff members and eventually left in a vehicle.
The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department then contacted other area schools and businesses to inform them of the situation, while scouring the neighborhood in search of the vehicle. Police did locate the vehicle just after 9 a.m. and took two people into custody.
Police say they suspect the use of illegal narcotics played a role in the incident, though no additional details were immediately released. There are no further public safety concerns, according to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
