UPDATE: Suspect captured in fatal Tomahawk shooting

UPDATE: One person is in custody following a fatal shooting Thursday in Tomahawk.

The suspect was arrested in Chippewa County, according to police.

Additional details are expected to be released today.


TOMAHAWK — One man is dead and a suspect is on the loose after a shooting Thursday in Tomahawk, according to police.

WJFW reports the shooting happened at about 7:45 p.m Thursday on Mohawk Drive. Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots, and Tomahawk Police Chief Al Elvins confirmed to WJFW that one person died in the shooting.

The shooting marks the first homicide in at least five years in Tomahawk.

Police have been scouring the area searching for a suspect, but as of late Thursday, no one has been taken into custody. Still, police say the do not believe there is any imminent danger to the public.

Police say they have identified the suspected shooter, but have not shared that suspect’s identity with the media or the public. The name of the man who died has not been released.

A news conference is set for 9 a.m. Friday.
