TOMAHAWK – Tomahawk police have identified the victim in the city’s first shooting homicide in years as 52-year-old Charles K. Ramp.
Police Chief Al Elvins said Ramp was shot and killed outside his home on W. Mohawk Drive Thursday night, according to a WJFW report.
According to the WJFW report: Officers responded at 5:45 p.m. Thursday to a 911 call from Ramp’s wife. When officers arrived, they discovered Ramp had been shot in his driveway with what police describe as a long gun. Medics took Ramp to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk, where he died.
Elvins said Ramp and the suspect knew each other for about 4 1/2 years. Police say the suspect went to the when Ramp was not at home, and spoke with two people inside the home. When Ramp arrived, the suspect allegedly shot Ramp in the driveway.
Elvins told WJFW that the people inside the home didn’t notice anything unusual in the suspects behavior in the moments leading up to the shooting.
One person inside the home was also injured after being struck by debris caused by a stray bullet. That person only suffered bruises, Elvins said.
Police from Lincoln County drove out to Lake Hallie to pick up the suspect, who was found in a parking lot outside “an establishment,” according to the WJFW report. Elvins said the suspect didn’t resist arrest.
“He said he was heading west and that’s as much as I’m going to release on that part of it,” Elvins said.
Police brought the suspect back to Tomahawk by 3:10 a.m., when officers then interviewed him.
“No way he could explain it,” Elvins said. “He said, ‘I don’t know why I did it.’”
Elvins does not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the shooting.
“I’m not going to say he thought about it for days, but it appears that he may have thought about it for a couple hours prior to coming up here,” Elvins said.
