Kids Kount program grows to impact more than 70 children

in Community

The Kids Kount program administered by Greater Wausau Christian Services (GWCS) will present gifts to children in the Wausau area next month.

The Kids Kount program provides Christmas gifts to children with a parent held at the Marathon County Jail. Last year, 71 children received gifts or gift cards, up from 52 in 2015. The program is managed by Marlene Schalow and Sally Scinto-Reinertson.

“Last year we helped more than 70 children have a better Christmas celebration and this year, because of the kindness and support of so many wonderful people, we hope to reach even more.” said chaplain Ray Slatton, director of GWCS.

GWCS would like to thank the members of the community who support the program. Community members give of themselves financially and through volunteering time to wrap and deliver gifts.

GWCS also thanks 89Q Hope is Here (89.5 FM), especially Coy Sawyer, the station’s general manager, and Ryan Bair, an on-air personality, for their kind and generous help in previous years with a toy drives at Dunkin Donuts and Biggby Coffee. Last year, the Salvation Army generously reached out to GWCS with gifts, and the organization did not need to conduct a toy drive.

If you would like to help with the 2017 Kids Kount program, please contact Marlene Schalow at 715-842-5635.

Greater Wausau Christian Services is located at 319 Fourth Street in Wausau. For more information on the organization, visit gwcservices.org.
