Wisconsin police chief’s toddler injured in shooting accident with father’s gun

ELROY — A child accidentally shot Dec. 4 is the child of Elroy Police Chief Tony Green, according to a press release from Juneau County Sheriff Brent Oleson.

The release states the the 3-year-old accidentally shot himself with his father’s firearm. Elroy is a community of about 1,400 people located approximately 30 miles east of Wisconsin Dells.

Juneau County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in the town of Plymouth after a report of an accidental gunshot wound to the abdomen at 6 p.m. Dec. 4.

The boy was transported by ambulance to Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston and is reported to be in stable condition, according to the Juneau County Star Times.

Police did not say whether the handgun was Green’s service firearm or a personal gun.

The case is currently being investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation.
