WESTON, Wis – The doors are now open on Weston’s new Mexican restaurant as Patron gets ready to fully open next week.

After many months of renovations at the site of the former Tailgatez, 4403 Schofield Ave., Weston, the restaurant started serving dinner this week. Co-owner Jovani Gonzalez says he’s making sure everything’s ready to go for a full day’s menu starting next week.

One striking thing about the new building is the renovations that went into transforming it from a sports bar into Patron. Gonzalez says that’s one thing that the previous owners of the building never really did.

“The same decor, the same fixtures, the same design. Nobody took the time to change it, and we did take that time,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez went all the way to Mexico to bring in handcrafted fixtures and tables, and turned to local artists to paint the interior with murals.

Gonzalez says the menu will be familiar to patrons of Jalapenos in Wausau, but that there’s going to be some fresh, healthy options on the menu inspired by Crossfit menus.

“One of the cool things that we found out is that Mexican food is healthy, a fajita can be healthy for you,” he noted.

Other options on the menu will include a traditional red snapper and shrimp molcajete, along with the burritos and other fare that Gonzalez and his wife are known for in the Metro area.

Business has apparently been good, even without advertisement that the soft open is going on. While this interview was taking place, a customer walked in looking for some lunch. Jovani had to politely ask him to come back for dinner before coming back to the table to keep talking.

Patron is open for dinner at 4 p.m. now through Saturday and will be open for lunch and dinner beginning Monday, Dec. 11.

Gonzalez expects to do a full grand opening of the location sometime after Christmas.
